Four-player format
These are the variant rules for a four-player game of MLPCG. These allow for four individual players to play against each other. The format is still being developed and tested.
Rules
The rules are a variant of the standard rules of play with the following differences:
Game Setup
- The game is played with four players rather than two.
- Players must decide which direction to pass play when a player ends their turn.
- Players must decide turn order balancing (e.g. first Scene card being played face-down, or not drawing for first turn) for each player.
- The first-turn player may be determined by e.g. taking the highest on rolled dice.
- The Adventure Area of each player consists of three lanes as normal.
Gameplay
- The Contact Phase for the first- and third-turn players are resolved left-to-right, and for the second- and last-turn players are resolved right-to-left.
- Adventure Area lanes are resolved as follows in Contact Phase:
- The left lane opposes the left-hand player's right lane;
- The middle lane opposes the crosswise (two turns ahead) player's middle lane;
- The right lane opposes the right-hand player's left lane.
- When a player Takes Action in Contact Phase (i.e. they have a Character in a lane while the opposing lane has none), only the Story Area of the player whose lane is being opposed is considered. E.g. when the first-turn player's third lane is Taking Action on the second-turn player's first lane, only the second-turn player's Story Area state is considered for Actions.
